Ourouk Ensemble
Ourouk is an ensemble, which presents the arabic classical music in a modern form. There are arrangements of traditional melodies and rhythms as well as compositions of the ud player Raed Khoshaba.
The name Ourouk descends to us from Mesopotamia. the ud (arabic lute) comes from this region too (about 2350 BC). This instrument was developed to many forms to be a family of instruments. The european lute in the Middle Ages and Renaissance as well as the well-known guitar are just examples of this development.
Ourouk ensemble is a combination of the ud with the guitar and percussions. Through the usage of elements from Jazz, Flamenco and arabic and oriental musical elements, a dialogue of different cultures is created. This assured the ensemble a style of its own with an easy-to-understand musical language for all listeners.
The repertoire contains arrangements of well-known traditional iraqi and oriental melodies as well as compositions of the ud virtuoso Raed Khoshaba with accompaniment written by the guitarist Tibor Szücs, in addition to the mastery of different styles from the percussionist Abdelali Jasouli.
