The internationally renowned oud virtuoso and composer Raed Khoshaba first founded the Uruk Ensemble in 2002. Through its dialogue between the oud and the flamenco guitar, the ensemble captivated audiences at numerous festivals until 2008. Now the Uruk Ensemble returns with new musicians and new pieces composed by Raed Khoshaba. With a high level of artistic excellence, the group presents a diverse program featuring the oud, guitar, flute, harp, and percussion, incorporating elements of jazz, flamenco, and Arabic music. This blend defines the Uruk Ensemble’s unique style—a musical language that is both sophisticated and intuitively accessible.

Sascha Blejwas, a freelance musician, began as a self-taught musician, initially playing in various rock bands, and later expanded into funk and soul. His rapidly growing interest in jazz led him from the Bergische Musikschule Wuppertal (where he now teaches) to study jazz guitar at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Arnhem, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree. During his subsequent master’s program, he focused more on the acoustic guitar, taking lessons from the internationally renowned flamenco guitarist Rafael Cortès and, during several stays in Spain, from Juan Ramon Caro, among others.
He made a name for himself as a jazz guitarist 40 years ago. Alongside Stefan Löschner, he toured Germany as part of the guitar duo “Kroton.” The LP “Blaue Sonne” is still highly sought after by die-hard fans today. He then devoted himself entirely to flamenco, finding an enthusiastic audience not only with dancers but also with various percussionists. In his solo concerts, he offers a cross-section of the traditional flamenco canon. He is just as comfortable venturing into the rhythmic world of Latin America as he is with jazzy elements. This made him an immediate fit for the music of Raed Khoshabas, who is constantly pushing the technical boundaries of the Arabic lute.
